Geothermal energy is a natural resource available around the clock and it has the advantage of not being subject to seasonal variations, to weather or climate conditions. In many countries, geothermal energy is already used in a wide range of applications from generation of electricity, to direct use in heating networks, in greenhouses, fisheries etc.
TERNA ENERGY SA, through a joint venture, has participated in four tenders in Greece for the leasing of the right to explore the Geothermal potential that leads to management rights of certified fields. As of September 1st 2011 we were awarded the tenders for:
Evros River Delta; approximately 1307km2
Nestos River Delta; approximately 803km2
Samothraki Island; approximately 181km2 and
Central and Southern Chios region; approximately 476 km2.
Under construction or
ready to build (MW)
TERNA ENERGY SA intends to explore and make use of the full potential of these fields for all feasible applications and uses. The introduction of geothermal energy in our mix of expertise and production capacity will enrich our renewable energy portfolio. The company believes in Geothermal Energy and will explore opportunities to expand in this sector.
