History

TERNA Energy S.A. was incorporated in 1997 as a subsidiary of TERNA S.A. and as member of the GEK TERNA GROUP of companies, to undertake the development of RES generation activities, in light of the business opportunities arising from the Kyoto Protocol and the subsequent EU and national legislation prioritize increased reliance on RES-generated electricity.

  • The first wind park entered into operation in 2000, with an installed capacity of 11.22 MW. In the following years, the installed capacity of our wind parks increased rapidly as we continued to expand our wind park portfolio.
  • In 2004, we began exploring opportunities in RES markets outside of Greece, and began the process of identifying suitable sites for wind projects principally in the Balkans, and then in Central Europe in 2005.
  • We began diversifying into different RES segments by starting the construction of the first two small hydroelectric plants in 2006.
  • In 2007 following an IPO the company was listed in the Athens Stock Exchange.
  • In 2011 we started the operation of our wind parks in Poland of 32 MW and we obtained production licenses for our first wind parks in USA of 178 MW. During the same year, we completed construction on our first wind parks in Bulgaria of 30 MW.
