The solar energy segment includes solar photovoltaic and solar thermal power. Solar photovoltaic power transforms an amount of the sun's radiation directly into electricity, generally through interconnected silicon panels. Solar thermal power uses the heat of the sun's radiation to power, inter alia, heat pumps, solar water heaters, solar space heating and cooling, solar cookers and solar dryers. Photovoltaic technology is well-suited for electrification of isolated sites, while solar thermal energy is used primarily for domestic water heating.

Greece has one of the highest solar power potentials in the EU because of its sunny climate, and the government has incentivized investment by providing for high tariffs and capital subsidies for photovoltaic energy
TERNA ENERGY owns, operates and/ or evaluates photovoltaic plants in several regions in Greece.
