Terna Energy as Masdar’s Development Hub in Eastern Europe

At a time when the energy market is becoming increasingly demanding and value is shifting from the simple addition of capacity to the delivery of resilient and efficient infrastructure, Terna Energy is entering a new phase of growth with a clear strategic direction.

Within the framework of the 11 th Delphi Economic Forum, the company’s Chief Executive Officer, Aristotelis Chantavas, outlined the vision for the next phase and the strengthened role of the company as Masdar’s regional platform in Eastern Europe.

As he noted, the energy market is entering a phase of maturity, where “real value does not arise solely from installed capacity, but from the ability to deliver projects at scale, with reliability, speed, and discipline in execution and capital allocation.”

Mr. Chantavas emphasized that the partnership with Masdar creates new momentum for the company, combining international investment strength with proven local execution capability. As he stated, Masdar, which is celebrating 20 years of history this year, has set a target to build a portfolio of 100 GW by 2030, based on disciplined capital allocation and a long-term investment horizon.

In this context, Terna Energy is strengthening its role as a development hub in Eastern Europe, with an active presence in multiple markets and a clear focus on further expanding its portfolio in the region.

Particular reference was made to the pumped-storage project in Amfilochia, one of the largest energy storage investments currently being implemented in Europe, which constitutes critical infrastructure for enhancing the flexibility and security of the energy system.

At the same time, the company is advancing the planning and development of new investments in storage, renewable energy sources (RES), and hybrid projects, aiming to respond to the growing needs of the system and to capitalize on the opportunities emerging across the wider region.

In closing, Mr. Chantavas underlined: “The real challenge is not to set ambitious targets, but to have the ability to deliver them.”
