Water, in addition to being a valuable component of life, is capable of contributing to the production of clean energy through hydroelectric projects, the development of which is critical for our country to be able to achieve the goals of the National Energy and Climate Plan for the transition to a climate-neutral economy by 2050. At the same time, hydroelectric energy contributes to increasing the penetration of RES in the energy mix, to Greece’s independence from imported fossil fuels and to our much-desired energy autonomy.
TERNA ENERGY’s hydroelectric projects that are currently in operation amount to 18 MW, while the “Avlaki Hydroelectric Project” is in the development phase. Avlaki’s produced energy is estimated at 300GWh, an amount equivalent to the annual needs of a large city.
It is a project with a budget of around 200 million euros, with multiple benefits both for the national economy and the environment as well as for the local community.
